Umphrey's - can you point me to a good recent show? They are playing the Warfield next weekend and I have the ability to go for free and wonder if it is worth the roughly 4 hour round drive (at least it's not a "school" night). Do they "bring it" and will I likely be impressed? FYI, saw moe. a few years back at Fillmore and I was yawning (could have been a bad night; like when I saw "final" Phish shows at Shoreline many moons back - talk about aimless pointless noodling).

Spirit did tour with Led Zep a few years before STH was recorded. A Moby Grape song was hijacked musically and lyrically for 'Since I Been Long You', and both of Led Zeppelin's first 2 albums are complete jack jobs, causing the band to settle out of court for millions of dollars to other songwriters.

TDIH: http://www.archive.org/details/gd78-01-18.sbd.cotsman.13101.sbeok.shnf

January 78 is a particularly strong month. It had been a while since Terrapin Station was recorded and the band has become very familiar with their material. Jerry's voice is in bad shape but he really makes up for it in the jams on the Half Step opener. Lazy Lightning > Supplication also features a great rockin' jam.

I'm starting my day with the psychedelic surf sounds of The Mermen. One of San Francisco's finest instrumental bands. (In my humble opinion.)

If you like that style of music, you might also like The Shi-Tones. Both bands share the same guitarist.

Anything to keep you out of trouble...DP 26...April 26, 1969. Started with it because of Dupree, Mountains of the Moon, China Cat and Doin' that Rag, but really enjoying the rest of it as well.

It has an interesting set list with Me & My Uncle/Sitting On Top sanwiched by a 20 minute Lovelight on one side and a 26 minute Dark Star on the other.

I just went to the library and got a bunch of cds to load onto my iPod. Here's what's been on at Chateau Wineland...

Wilco, several early Dylan, MJs Thriller, Colbie Caillat (for my daughter), Jackie Greene, Ryan Adams, Drive By Truckers, Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, Neville Brothers, Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerals, Bing Crosby and a few others.

Sam Cooke - Live at the Harlem Square Club (1963), Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home and Wilco - Sky Blue Sky were the ones the ones that peaked my interest the most.

Sam Cook is incredible. So much soul and class. Blues Brothers? As in the real band with Cropper and Dunn? That makes sense because he influenced even Otis Redding so I'd imagine he'd influenced Booker T maybe too

I'm an avid Public Radio fan, and one of my favorite shows is American Routes. They either pick a theme or artist and do a two hour show on the music with lots of history and background highlighted. This was a memorable episode dedicated to Sam Cooke:

I've had an old Fleetwood Mac album in my head, Bare Trees.

Danny Kirwan's Dust, Spare Me A Little Of Your Love and the title track, but oddly not my fav "Sunny Side of Heaven."

I'm listening to a young award winning blues guitarist by the name of Micah Kesselring. Micah reached out to me for a trade and included his myspace link. Very talented!

Nice choice with Wilco. I was just listening to 8-12-08 minutes ago. Nels Cline's solo on Impossible Germany has to be one of the best things ever.
Now I'm listening to the John Cipollina with Keith and Donna that someone linked to in another thread. Pretty sweet stuff.

Indeed, I've listened to that show over and over. And prior to that it was the Milwaukee show and prior to that the 3 St Louis shows. I have roadcase bookmarked and go back to it frequently. Methinks RT should do the same....

Bob Seger Early Seger Vol 1(hopeully there will be Vol 2 and maybe more) The CD and the booklet that comes with it is kindof interesting as many of the photos are from the the 60's when he was with the Bob Seger System but none of the songs are older than 1972. So its not all that early but I dont think he had much vault material from the System days or before. If you have an interest in Bob I do recommend the CD, the SEGERFILE website, and the new photo book on early Seger with many great pics by Tom Weschler. Seger never stopped working on his dream.

I'm finishing my day with a fine performance by Little Feat, from 1974.

Love that Feat performance. And while I wasn't old enough in 74 I have to concur with this reviewer that this is a nice down and dirty recording to.... well you know

" Back when parents were first worried about what kind of raw urgent sex power Rock n Roll had lurking in the soft white folds of cotton panties - this was the band they feared in their worst nightmares. Girls just seemd to LOVE to give it up for Little Feat. The viscous jams Feat kicked just got down into that primal horizontal mambo thang. "

Today it was "Talking Timbuktu" by Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder, a change from the usual Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate. Here's a song from the 1st album (a new one is just out):

The new and improved 1972-09-09 SBD from Charlie Miller listed above. A pleasant enough, fairly relaxed '72 show with no conspicuous epiphanies but a sweet Bird Song, nice long Playing, and good second set jamming.
